A wrap-up of the TMAP 30th Anniversary
We have behind us a full three decades of TMAP. That is a real maturity milestone, one that not many bodies of knowledge in IT can proudly claim. In that period, TMAP has grown, evolved, reinvented itself, and is now more ready than ever to deliver its full potential.
The story started back in 1995 with the publication of the book Testing according to TMap. Fast-forward to 2025, and suddenly we are looking at 30 years of continuous innovation. A whole generation of testers, engineers, and quality professionals has grown up with TMAP as a familiar companion.
A celebration decades in the making
In April 2025, the TMAP Special Interest Group organized a celebratory gathering and invited every author of every TMAP book ever published. The group photo was like a timeline come to life: from the earliest pioneer, Martin Pol (now retired but still happily dropping in) to the youngest author, Jeroen Egelmeers, co-author of the newest title, Amplified Quality Engineering. Thirty years of expertise in one room makes for a special kind of energy.

And that was only the beginning. The anniversary spirit echoed through many other events.
TMAP on stage
At the A4Q Testing Summit on 3 June 2025, the spotlight was on the value of the TMAP body of knowledge. The full recording is available online for anyone curious to see how far the methodology has come: https://youtu.be/hPan3y4fW18?t=1
TMAP authors also presented at conferences across the quality engineering landscape. One standout moment: Wouter Ruigrok and Rik Marselis delivering a keynote at EuroSTAR in Edinburgh, presenting to an audience of 1,000 attendees. Their session—based on their latest book—sparked both nostalgia and excitement for the future.

Another highlight was the Noordertest conference, where five authors representing different generations of TMAP came together: from Martin Pol and Ruud Teunissen of the first edition, to Leo van der Aalst of the best-selling TMAP NEXT, to Wouter and Rik with their newest publication. The message was clear: although TMAP has evolved enormously, many of its original foundations remain relevant today.

A gift for the community: The first TMAP Audiobook
As part of the celebrations, the first-ever TMAP audiobook was released. It offers a concise summary of the core of today’s body of knowledge, rooted in Quality for DevOps Teams. The audiobook is freely available for streaming or download here. It is a perfect companion for your work journey, a workout, or a relaxed walk.
Fireworks for the future: Launching Amplified Quality Engineering
For many, the highlight of the anniversary year came on 23 September 2025. During the Quality Experience Day in Utrecht, the newest TMAP book, Amplified Quality Engineering – With GenAI & For GenAI, was launched with literal fireworks (see the picture). All 700 attendees left with their own copy, marking a cheerful and memorable moment for a software-quality book launch. If you want to learn more about the book, check this link.

TMAP Today: Growing fast, spreading wide
TMAP’s evolution has not just been about books. Since the introduction of the latest TMAP version in 2020, certification numbers have been climbing at a remarkable rate. The program is now on track to reach 4,000 certified professionals soon, demonstrating global appetite for structured, modern quality engineering practices.
And these professionals are everywhere. Certificate holders of all four TMAP modules span continents: from Brazil to South Africa, Singapore to India, Norway to the UK, and many countries in between. Quality engineering truly has no borders.
Three decades down, new horizons ahead
Thirty years of TMAP show what consistent innovation, community engagement, and practical value can achieve. From the early days of structured testing to today’s world of AI-driven quality engineering, TMAP has continually adapted, and continues to lead.
As we close this milestone celebration and look toward the opportunities ahead, one thing is clear: if the first three decades were about building maturity, the decades to come will be about amplifying it.
With that spirit in mind, we wish everyone a warm and joyful holiday season and all the very best for a successful and inspiring New Year.
